Big Rock Ranch in Yerington Nevada is close to the Walker River and the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area.  The Valley has a rich history and known for growing some of the finest alfalfa in the world.  Beautiful spring weather and warm summers bring snowmelt from the nearby Sierra Nevada and turns the valley into a rich green contrasted against the surrounding desert.

The ranch encompasses 80 acres with cross-fenced pastures, arena and barn facilities.  It represents the ideas and dreams of Mike & Carol Sharkey whose love of horses and open spaces can be seen in the layout and style of this growing ranch.

Carol & Mike Sharkey began their business careers in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Eastern California. Owners of a small fishing resort in June Lake, their horses summered in the Sierra and wintered in the lower elevations outside of Bishop. Carol occasionally cooked for pack trips into the high country and across the crest into Yosemite. Paint horses have always been special to them; their willingness and strength, ability and gentle nature the attraction. Their love for the breed has led them to build Big Rock Ranch and specialize in raising these fine, all-around horses.
